Definition of Terms
Worked department: department where hours are actually worked (and expensed)
Home department: department where an employee is officially assigned in the payroll master file; employee may not work all of his/her hours in this department
Labor type: there are three labor types, as designated by the first digit in the account number:
1 - Normal labor: hours which are worked (and expensed) by an employee in his/her home department (i.e., worked department and home department are the same)
2 - Borrowed labor: from the perspective of the worked department, these are hours which are worked (and expensed) by an employee from a different home department (i.e., worked department and home department are not the same)
3 - Lost labor: from the perspective of the home department, these are hours which are worked (and expensed) in another department, thereby reducing worked hours in the home department; note that these hours are redundant to borrowed hours stored in the worked department
Employee status: groupings from the payroll system, this data element differentiates the various classifications of full-time, part-time, and temporary employees; see accompanying Employee Status Description for details
Job class: alternately referred to as position code, this data element describes the different skill levels and operational functions within the hospital
Pay type: corresponding to Time Codes on the payroll system, this data element differentiates the various pay categories such as regular, overtime, vacation, jury duty, etc.(about 35 in all); this element is used to distinguish productive and non-productive hours and expense; see accompanying Time Code Description for details.

C = Job Class: Values range from 1 to 9999 and define detailed position codes.
D = Pay Type: Values are mapped from Payroll system time codes -
(regular, PDO, over-time, etc.).
E = G/L Type: Values are 1-7 corresponding to Labor Types - (management, RN, etc.).
